RTMS VAPolyMT is a new bi-timbral polyphonic virtual analog Synthesizer for iOS (iPhone/iPadOS) and macOS.
After the great Logic Pro news, I’ll stick with iOS for a moment. Ryo Togawa, also known as RTMS, has already released a variety of different Synthesizers. Today a new one is added.
RTMS VAPolyMT is a new bi-timbral polyphonic Synthesizer for iOS and macOS, inspired by the synthesizers that contributed to shaping the iconic sounds of Trance, House, and Techno Music in the 1990s.
RTMS VAPolyMT
VAPolyMT is a new bi-timbral polyphonic virtual analog Synthesizer. The synth consists of two layers, each with two distinct oscillators, a filter, an LFO, envelopes, a sequencer, and more. One oscillator can generate a mix of detuned of seven-oscillator outputs while the other can create a blend of seven octave-shifted oscillator outputs.
They offer a continuously variable waveshape (sine, sawtooth, square), with PWM, exponential FM, hard sync, and ring modulation (oscillator 1 to oscillator 2). Plus, there is a sub-square oscillator with one octave lower than oscillator 1 and a pink/white noise generator.
Then, it passes through a low-pass filter with selectable 12dB and 24dB per octave slopes, and a high-pass filter with a 12dB per octave slope. Frequency modulation on the filter is possible via an ADSR envelope, LFO, and key follower.
On the modulation menu, you can find two ADSR envelopes with delay time and key follow parameters, and two multi-mode LFOs per layer. To refine your sounds, it also hosts a multi-FX processor with delay, chorus, flanger, EQ, compressor, and reverb.
AUv3 Support
RTMS VAPolyMT can be played traditionally with the keys on the interface or with a MIDI keyboard. For more advanced play, it also features a multi-mode arpeggiator and an analog-style step sequencer with eight steps programmable on a piano roll. The latter also has a sample-and-hold functionality.
It operates as a standalone app or as an AUv3 plugin on iOS and macOS (native Apple Silicon only). This allows you to use it in multiple instances in your DAW. Furthermore, the standalone version also supports Ableton Link, MIDI, and audio file export. Indeed, it has a built-in audio recorder.
First Impression
Unfortunately, I often get a bit confused when it comes to Ryo Togawa’s synthesizer releases. I like his releases, but they tend to be very similar in the feature set. Just recently, during the Superbooth time, he released the PolyTS, a Synthesizer very similar to this one.
I’d appreciate it if he clarified his descriptions a bit so you could see the differences between the apps—otherwise, another great-sounding synth from RTMS.
RTMS VAPolyMT is available now for an introductory price of $5,99 /6,99€. It runs as a standalone app and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPad, iPhone) and macOS (native Apple Silicon support).
