Zoom LiveTrak L6 is a new portable, battery-powered 10-channel digital mixer and recorder designed for jams and live sessions.

We’ll have to wait a little longer for the new Zoom L6 (L-6), but you can now pre-order it now for $299.99/339€. Thomann says it will take  12-15 weeks, so roughly three months +/-. Maybe we’ll be lucky, and it will arrive sooner.

Zoom also has published a new video about the L6 LiveTrak mixer and multi-track recorder. In this, you can also see the Eurorack compatibility and the option to mount it in a Eurorack case.

Update

Article From September 13, 2024

Recently, interest in DAWless jams and live sessions has increased rapidly. More and more musicians want to perform with hardware synths, drum machines, Eurorack, etc.  Musicians often use small, all-in-one mixers with recording functionality to capture these sessions.

The Zoom LiveTrak series is popular among musicians. At IBC Amsterdam 2024 today, Zoom introduced a new LiveTrak family member. One that will particularly please DAWless and mobile musicians.

Zoom LiveTrak L6

The LiveTrak L6 is the newest addition to the LiveTrak series and also the smallest. It’s a portable, battery-powered digital mixer and recorder with 32-bit float support for the on-the-go.

It offers ten channels, consisting of two XLR-1/4″ mic/line inputs and stereo pairs of 1/4″ line inputs. You also get a stereo AUX send input, a master stereo output, and a headphone monitor socket.

Each channel offers hands-on channel strip controls, including level, pan, AUX 1, AUX 2, and a 3-band EQ with adjustable mid.

Like the previous Zoom LiveTrak products, the L6 is also a multitrack recorder. It can record up to 12 tracks simultaneously on a micro-SD card and supports 32-bit float recording. This way, you don’t have to check if you go in with a too-hot signal during the jam because there is no clipping.

Sample Player & Audio/ MIDI Interface

Then, it also gives you five internal send effects to refine your sounds and recordings. Another handy feature is MIDI support, available on dedicated MIDI input and output 3.5mm TRS sockets.

If you work in different setups, the Zoom LiveTrack L6 also allows you to save your mixer and tempo settings in three recallable scenes. Further, it offers four assignable sound pads that act as a sample player.

Another handy feature of the new Zoom LiveTrak L6 is the USB-C audio and MIDI interface functionality, which can be found on many Zoom products. According to the developers, this works on macOS, Windows, and iOS,

It’s also welcome that it’s a super portable device powered by four AA batteries, an AC adapter, or a mobile battery via USB-C. So, it can be an ideal mixer and recorder for live jams that can also take place outdoors.

First Impression

The LiveTrak L6 is an exciting live mixer and recorder for DAWless live jams and sessions. I find it particularly interesting because it is super compact and easy to take with you on the road.

Unfortunately, too few mixers and recorders are available on the market in this size. This fills the gab nicely. Plus, 32-bit support, MIDI, sample player, and more are great bonuses.

Zoom LiveTrak L6 is available soon for $299,99.

  1. I have to hand it to Teenage Engineering here, they basically proved there was a market for this by making an even more niche version of it first.

That said, excellent work by Zoom at last making something in this category for the rest of us.

    • Sorry but all TE did was look at what was already on the market, make it smaller, and take the price to the absolute max. All TE proved was being able to build something too small that it becomes a pain to use but looks cool on social media . The Zoom however looks like has way better controls and features for a price that basically anyone can afford.

What I don’t like about the L6 is the I/O on top. I think Stereo TRS on the rear would’ve been a better choice and left more room on top for larger controls.

  2. It’s about time. We should be inundated with compact recorders/mixers with this kind of feature set so hats off to Zoom for finally jumping in on the cheaper end of TE and 1010.

  3. Brilliant a no brainer for me as a mobile music maker and solo artist.
I have the L12 and I am satisfied with it in my studio that is.
    Good move from zoom !

  4. Brilliant, I wish it had some plain ordinary FX return sockets though. Don’t want to use up the main channels on that!

  5. Did you miss one important detail, or did I miss it in your description? The L6 can be mounted into a Eurorack system via an optional rack ears and power supply kit…! What a smart move by Zoom. Now I need to get myself two of them. On for the rack and one for wehen I´m on the move…:D
