At SynthFest France 2023, Bruno of BVR Instruments introduced a new analog bass drum module for Eurorack with a built-in compressor.
Good news from BVR Instruments. The Bass Drum generator module, announced back at SynthFest France 2023 is now available. The developer took a bit longer because Bruno, the developer, redesigned the circuit of it. It now features an Opto-Fet transistor which is RoHs compliant.
As a reminder, it’s a bass drum module that is capable of recreating the iconic bass drum sounds of the 808 and 909 drum machines and more. Plus, it has a side-chain compressor for seamlessly blending external audio sources with the bass drum sound.
BVR Instruments Bass Drum is available now for an introductory price of 229€ until November 30, 2023. The regular price is 269€ and is ready for purchase on the developer’s website.

The first product of the new French company BVR Instruments was the TS1. An interesting creative Eurorack sequencer that works with MIDI and CV at the same time.
The portfolio was expanded for SynthFest France 2023. In addition to a new expander for the TS1 that brings more I/O, Bruno the developer, also showed a new bass drum module.
BVR Instruments Bass Drum
Bass drum is a new 10HP full analog bass drum voice with two parts.
First, you have the bass drum section, consisting of various parameters available on potentiometers and sliders: wave, decay, and shaping parameters like tone and snap. The second part features a click signal with a level control.
A highlight is the built-in optical compressor that can be controlled with CV. Using the built-in bass drum envelope, you can achieve ducking effects. This section offers two parameters: compressor ratio and gain.
On the front panel, you get CV control for the VCO pitch, bass drum envelope, and waveshape. Further, it offers input and output for compressing external signals. There is also a main trigger input and a main output for the bass drum sound.
