GlitchScaper is a new experimental glitch rhythm machine with a unique concept packed with sound generators, effects, and more.

Last March Igor Vasiliev released GlitchScaper. A wild, experimental glitch rhythmic machine for iOS and macOS. A unique instrument that is not found in hardware. Igor has today released version 1.2 with some new features and improvements.

New in GlitchScaper 1.2

  • new button “Multi/Single” toggles the main screen between displaying all six sound generators or displaying all controls for the selected generator on the single screen.
  • new option “Undo” allows you to revert parameters to their previous state after “Make sequence” / “Make tone” operations for each generator, as well as return to a save point that you can set before making changes to the parameters of different generators.
  • buttons that have multiple values now open a pop-up menu (but you can set the toggle values mode in app settings).
  • improvements for the assignment of MIDI controls, export presets, and built-in descriptions.
  • several minor bug fixes

The update is free of charge for existing users.

Igor Vasiliev has made a name in the iOS community for super unique, experimental instruments and effects processors. SoundSaw, for example, is a weird distortion processor, and SpaceFields is an ambient space machine. One of my all-time favorites is FieldScape which is an iOS app turning your iPhone/iPad into a multi-layer field recorder with onboard sound shapers.

Now Igor is back with a new crazy app. GlitchScaper is a new fascinating rhythm machine with an experimental DNA.

GlitchScaper

Every Igor Vasiliev app is playful, unique, and thinking outside the box. GlitchScaper continues on this very nice path. It’s a rhythm machine for macOS/iOS with six sound generators, each controlled by a two-layer cycle sequencer. It’s mainly designed for easily creating glitchy patterns and scapes.

Each tone generator has 12 complex waveforms/various noise types or you can use it as an external input.Effects transform the tone from smoothly varying to full of squeaks and rattles. Each effect is modulated by a unique envelope generator with different shapes that change throughout the sequencer step.

The sound generators have individual spatial effects, as well as a common reverb space for all generators that adds an ambient layer to the final mix. GlitchScaper also comes with a built-in harmonic exciter and bass enhancer for finalizing your sounds. Including making it brighter, heavier, or pumping.

Parameters of the new sequences and tones are set randomly but are guided by several user-defined options, which in outline, define the steps of the sequence and the type of tone or noise. There is also an advanced copy function for quick new presets by copying sequences and tones from existing ones.

Thanks to its intuitive interface and powerful sound design features, the app is super convenient for creating your own, unique sounds, promises Igor Vasiliev.

GlitchScaper is great for creating simple beats with interesting and unusual sounds. But it had another original sound mission. According to Igor, it was mainly created for digitally distorted patterns with longer steps that blend perfectly with the rhythms of classic drum machines and sequencers.

First Impression

With GlitchScaper, Igor shows us once again that there is still room for new ideas for sound generators and rhythm machines. It doesn’t always have to be an emulation or clone/replica of a vintage instrument. GlitchScaper is wild, playful, and original. This app is wonderful for anyone who wants to make experimental, distorted rhythms or noisescapes. Great release Igor.

GlitchScaper is available now for $15,99 and runs on iOS (iPhone/iPad) standalone and as an AUv3 plugin and on macOS (Apple Silicon)
