After BEHRINGER (Cool Audio) announced some time ago, that they bring the well-known old Synthesizer chips back on the market, another company had the same idea. Erica Synths, the Latvian synth manufacturer announced today the official releases of the AS3310, AS3340 and AS3360 Synthesizer chips.
As the name implies, these chips are a reissue of the well-known Doug Curtis chips CEM 3310 (voltage controlled envelope generator), 3340 ( voltage controlled oscillator) and 3360 (voltage controlled amplifier). Interesting to know is that these chips are no 100% clones but re-designed and improved versions. Among other, the chips were installed in many Oberheim (OB-X, OB-SX…), Sequential Circuits (Prophet-10, Prophet 600, Pro-One, Prophet-5 Rev 3, Prophet T8…) and in some Roland Synthesizers like the SH-101 or MC-202.
Since the chips are now available again, it will be interesting to see how this will reflect on the market of new Synthesizers. Will we see more Synthesizers again with the familiar Curtis chips or will they only see in very high quality devices? This will certainly be seen in 2018/2019.
AS3310 (Voltage Controlled Envelope Generator)
The AS3310 is a self-contained, precision ADSR type of envelope generator, pin to pin compatable with CEM3310. The chip is fully redesigned in order to improve stability and eliminate some native faults and it comes in DIP-16,SOIC-16 for more compact designs.Attack, decay and release times are exponentially voltage controllable over a wide range, and the sustain level is linearly voltage controllable from 0 to 100% of the peak voltage Vp. All four control Inputs are Isolated from the rest of the circuitry, so that the control pins of tracking units may be simply tied together.

AS3340 (Voltage Controlled Oscillator)
The AS 3340 is completely self contained, precision voltage controlled oscillator, featuring both exponential and linear control scales and up to four buffered output waveforms: triangle, sawtooth, square, and pulse with voltage controllable pulse width. Full temperature compensation makes these VCOs extremely stable, and eliminates the need for a temperature compensation resistor. The AS3340 is pin to pin compatable with CEM3340, but the chip is fully redesigned in order to improve stability and eliminate some native faults and it comes in DIP-14, SOIC-14 and QFN-24 cases for very compact designs.

AS3360 (Voltage Controlled Amplifier)
The AS3360 is a dual general purpose voltage controlled transconductor intended for such applications as voltage controlled amplifiers, filters, and waveform generators. Each transconductor independently provides both linear and exponential control scaling over greater than a 100 dB range. The AS3360 is pin to pin compatable with CEM3360, but the chip is fully redesigned in order to improve stability and eliminate some native faults and it comes in DIP-14 and SOIC-14 cases.
